The problem is the tempo change. When you're changing a tempo by a relatively small amount it can sound awkward like this. My advice is to either keep the tempo of the riff at 160 bpm or put the whole thing in 180. You should perhaps also change the drum beat to a skank blast or somethin.

Well I did take your advice before posting this and it didn't work. The 160 is too slow for the following riff and the 180 is too fast for the intro. As to drums, try to keep a normal 4/4 beat going only altering it if the riff requires it.

how about everything in 170? (split the difference) or if you keep it the way it is, add a transition in between sections. Before the 180 tempo section, stop the music and crescendo your lead and rhythm into the 180 tempo section for example.

You're right, the bpm might not be the cause though, I think it's missing a bar length. You might need to add a 44, but if it's too long then try with smaller. It's just a hint though, you might find a different solution.
